Overview

Kaya village Turkey, Kayakoy is near the beach resort of Oludeniz and the marina town of Fethiye. Renting a villa in Kayakoy

The Ancient Kayakoy Villa has its own swimming pool.

Villa Vasil, one of the Relish villas, is a 2 bedroom duplex house with pool. All your comforts have been considered in our house, which was furnished with modern furniture after being restored. Due to its location, it is located in the center of Kayakoy, right across from the ruins. You can watch the view of the historical Kayaköy houses from the bedrooms and the view of the village from the large terrace.

Since it is a historical and restored house, its current state has been preserved and its interior usage areas have been planned. There is 1 kitchen, 1 dining area, 1 wc and living area on the ground floor. There are 2 bedrooms on the upper floor, each bedroom has its own bathroom. Again, the large terrace on the top floor is the place you will enjoy the most.

Our house has 1 double bed and 2 single beds and the total accommodation capacity is 4 people. Bedrooms are air conditioned.

The pool and garden are covered with a wooden screen and a private area belonging to the house has been created.

Relish Villas currently includes 2 stone houses with private pools and 2 tiny houses with private pools within a 6,000 square meter land. There is a garden cafeteria next door.

Kayaköy is an open-air museum located just outside of the hustle and bustle of Oludeniz and Hisaronu; situated in the Fethiye region of Turkey. If you’re looking for something a little different to do while you’re in Turkey, this is it! I have visited the town at least six times now and never been disappointed; it’s a great way to spend a few hours, take a few photos and enjoy the natural history amongst quite a touristy area.

THE HISTORY OF KAYAKOY

The town itself was once happily co-inhabited by Greeks and Turks. After several huge events, including WW1 and a devastating earthquake, it became the abandoned town it is today. The town also has its claim-to-fame due to featuring in Russell Crowes movie “The Water Diviner”. UNESCO has since named Kayakoy a world friendship and peace village.

Each time I have visited Kayakoy, it has been near-empty, meaning its been a beautiful, quiet place to explore.

VISITING KAYAKOY GHOST TOWN

The town itself is situated upon a hillside; a beautiful array of derelict homes and chapels. As you reach the entrance (scroll down to read how to get there) you will need to pay a small admission fee, dependant on whether there is an admissions officer at the entrance or not. This is usually quite hit and miss, around 50% of the time I have had to pay upon entering and 50% of the time there is no-one at the entrance to pay. The fee is minimal anyway, around £2 each.

Once you enter, you are free to begin exploring the town. To walk around the whole museum, it would probably take around 2 hours in total, especially on a hot summers day. I would recommend following the trail up the hillside until you reach the very peak of the town on the upper right-hand-side, which is marked by a large Turkish flag which you can see from the entrance. Along the way, you will pass the lower church and courtyard as well as many abandoned homes, schools and shops. Once you reach the peak, you will be greeted by an old chapel and views of the Meditteranean sea; as-well as overlooking the entire town.

Once you have finished your tour of Kayakoy, there are many cafes and restaurants within walking distance where you can cool down, grab a drink and bite to eat.
