Overview
La Estrella
From the road you come into a patio, from where you enter La Estrella. The whole lower floor is open plan. First you come into the fully equipped kitchen part which is kept in a very pleasant green. It goes over into a cozy and comfortable eating and livingarea with a wooden beamed ceiling with reeds.Everything here,as well as in the entire house throughout is very comfortably furnished, with made-to-meassure furniture from the carpenter and with lighting that enhances the rustic and cozy feel of the place. In the cooler month you might want to cuddle up in front of the glasswindowed woodburner. We also offer SAT TV and a CD player/radio.The floors are of local terracotta. Thanks to a watersoftener the water is nice and soft.
BEDROOMS:
The bedrooms are upstairs. The masterbedroom is kept in a cooling blue and has wooden beamed ceilings.A small step leads up into an alcove, where you find a singlebed, this joining room can be closed off with a thick curtain. In this annex we set an antique stained glass window, which goes out into the landing of the starircase in order to give everything more light and that mentioned flow. This bedroom goes into the attached bathroom, which in fact is also attached to the other bedroom with a separate door. The 2nd bedroom is kept in an old pink, has a doublebed and a door goes out to a balcony from which you can overlook the patio and the cave-jacuzzi.The mattresses and bedding are of high quality. In summer we provide fans and hang mosquito netting over the beds to guarantee ahealthy and peaceful sleep.
BATHROOM:
This in a cooling blue painted bathroom can be entered from both bedrooms. It has 2 windows and is therefore very bright.Like the whole house so it too has a wooden beamed ceiling with reeds and a terracottafloor the tiles match the paint and are blue and white with terracotta insets. The shower is with 90x90 big and has a integrated shelf for all the showerutensils. The sink is set into black slate and has a lot of space aound it,into the mirror above reach some riverstones, which give it a special touch.Of course we provide towels. The 2nd bathroom is off the patio and is shared with the guests of El Sol.Here you also find the washingmachine,an iron and ironing board.
Surrounding countryside, village and La Cueva
The 3 Guajar-villages, of which Faragüit is the biggest, are nestled in a very fertile and green valley, surrounded by mountains.Sometimes the Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyaplantations reach up to the top of these mountains. The Moors left behind the acequias(wateringchannels) that criss cross the valley and thanks to which it is so wonderfully fertile. These white Andalucian villages have actually been overlooked by tourism despite their proximity to the sea.Down to the coast, the beach and the next golfcourse it is 20mins,to Granada 1hr.,to the skislopes 11/2 hrs. and to the Alpujarras 45mins.Faragüit offers everything you might need,a colourful weekly market on Saturdays,a bar/restaurant with good homecooking from the area,a bank/ATM,a few bakeries, supermarket, doctor, faramcy , besides traders that offer veggies, fruit and fresh fish from their cars.La Cueva is situated in a carfree alleyway and therefore very quiet. You can park as near as 200m away.
Approaching La Cueva you already feel the special flair of the place! The whole property has a certain flow,a matching colourcombination, reoccurring decorations, cozy corners and lots of light.Entering from the alleyway you come into a cool and cozy patio with 2 Moorish sittingcorners and lovely well scented plants, all kept in a pleasant tone of terracotta. The house consists of La Estrella and El Sol,both share the patio with its Moorish sittingcorners, from here some steps lead up to the cave into which we set a refreshing , solarheated Jacuzzi with its waterfall.Next to it we converted an old stable into another showerroom with toilet, sink and washingmachine.A spiral staircase leads up to the roof top terrace(100m2) with amazing views over the whole village that´s surrounded by the Guajar mountains. Here you find 2 shady pergolas with more Moorishsittingcorners, deckchairs, sunumbrellas, hammocks and a BBQ.
Where to go, What to do
This somehow overlooked little jewel offers something for everybody.Away from the tourist hussle-buzzle on the coast, you take a dip into rural Andalucia, here you will experience how time seems to have stood still.Swing in the hammock and soak up the village noises, the mules that go past a few times daily or Jacinto the local fishmonger as he shouts “VAAMOOOS PECAAOOOO”(come and buy fish) or the veggieseller “ NIÑA PAPAS..”.Or take a refreshing dip in the cave Jacuzzi a very original place to while a day away.In the evening take your favorite drink, sit up on the terrace and watch the moon rise or set or on moonless nights explore the milkyway or count the shooting stars, always with a secret wish.Or visit us over at La Rueda for a chat and some coffee and cake. This place is a idyllic as it sounds!
Directly from the house start short and also longer walks to explore the local mountains.A bit further on you will pass through a small gorge and then come to Guajar Alto, the smallest of the 3 Guajar villages.Wander along the different muletracks past and through meditarrenean Olive-Orange-Avocado and Chirimoyagroves.Enjoy the almond blossom that starts in February and succumb to the perfume of the orangeblossom(El Azahar) in March.Watch the farmers in the plantingseason or at harvesttime. The nearest beach is 20 mins away and a little bit further you will find still rather untouched and romantic coves.Granada with its famous Alhambra, its charming,Moorish Albayzin and its quaint old town is only 1 hr away. The cozy and original villages of the Alpujarra with its cristalclear streams, refreshing riverpools and the snowcovered 3000m mountains always invite you to hike and explore and are only 45 mins away.Come, relax and enjoy!!

Stefan ist ein super Gastgeber. Alles rund um dem Aufenthalt wurde schnell und unkompliziert kommuniziert.
Lugar encantador donde hemos podido relajarnos y disfrutar. Muy buena ubicación. Un lugar mágico.
A beautiful house in a nice and quiet village. A great place to experience the beauty of the area (walks are great). I think it would be even better during spring, so maybe we will come back to see it then.
Superbe maison dans in cadre magnifique. De plus, Stefan est disponible et très accueillant. Ne passez pas à coté!
Stefan and Naomi are excellent hosts! The house was very clean and they were on the site when we arrived. Stefan really took all time to explain about the house, and about the possibilities for excursions. Good value for money, absolutely recommended!

Extra information
La Cueva came into existence by joining a ruined house,a very neglected chickenpen and a total ruin.We renovated everything with lots of dedication and love to the detail, trying to incorporate local materials like wood, stone, reeds from the river, esparto(local woven grass) and terracotta. The result are 2 holidayhomes, both very rustic, with lots of Moorish charme, but at the same time extremely comfortable with all the amenities.La Cueva is situated in the biggest of the 3 Guajar villages,20 mins from the coast and 1 hr from Granada. This is still a living white Andalusian village of mainly small farmers.Cool off in the Jacuzzi set into a cave with a waterfall, read a book in the pleasant patio or enjoy the magnificent views from the roof top terrace, where you have a choice of 2 shady pergolas.Or rock in one of the hammocks and let life go past. This place is as idyllic as it sounds, just lean back, relax and enjoy!!!

What can we tell you about us? We, that is the boss, Stefan and his foreign wife Naomi and of course the lazy cats Blackey, Felix and Tammy.(He,Austrian, she,British;cats, Spanish) We are all VERY lucky bums and enjoy every day anew living in this wonderful, wonderful part of the world! Naomi and I, we are both from the touristtrade. After some years of working abroad in big hotels ( we met in Geneva), we decided to do some travelling and started with 6 month in Asia. Then, after a bit of work in Austria/Germany we went off again for 2 more years. Returning back to Austria we were thinking of becoming normal and wanted to marry, have children and save up for a house…sounds familiar hey?! Anyway we rented a pub/restaurant in Bavaria and within the first year had a crisis meeting between the 2 of us. We decided, that these above mentioned goals did NOT justify such hard work with so many long hours! So, instead of changing the job, we changed our goals into more travelling, that motivated us enough to keep going for 5 ½ years. So then we stored our few belongings and set off on a new trip, that was in 1992…..You want to know where we went? What we did? What we experienced? Come and spend some time with us, and we will tell you!! Anyway, we came back to Europe in 1999 and started looking for a new home somewhere a bit warmer than in the north. We happened upon this beautiful area and immediately fell in love with it, we looked at La Rueda on a Monday and bought it by Friday, soon after Blackey moved in,who in the meantime has dies. After which we ook in 3 young kittens and now see the world through their eyes. Things like food flying around in the form of birds, dangers everywhere, like small dogs and motorbikes. After having done up the lot we thought to be able to lead a quiet life and enjoy paradise. Instead we came across this charming ruin in Guajar bought it at the spur of the moment and then saw us nearly 3 years in working clothes…when we had recovered we bought another old ruin in the centre of Orgiva and did it up, finishing it in 2017.All 3 properties La Rueda and La Cueva and El Garzopo turned out unique little jewels and we´d be more than happy sharing them with you.
