The Long House Of The Mas D'arjac
Farm house with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and private pool in Vailhourles, the South of France
From £945 per week
Beautiful 18th century stone farmhouse with pool at the Mas d'Arjac, Aveyron, surrounded by woodlands and meadows
Overview
The Mas d'Arjac is a tiny hamlet beautifully set in woodlands and fields far from the madding crowd. The gardens and grounds of the Mas offer a haven of peace and quiet, whilst the atmospheric bastide town of Villefranche de Rouergue is just a 15/20 minute drive away.
Most of the stone buildings of le Mas d’Arjac date from the early 18th century. The keystone of the Long House is dated 1738, and the building remained largely untouched until its recent and sympathetic restoration by local artisans who used only traditional methods and natural materials so that nothing has been lost of the beauty of the original building or of its character. The interiors retain all of their original beams and stone features. At the same time, we have added luxuries such as solid oak floors and terra cotta tiles which are in keeping with the age and style of the home but with the addition of under floor heating as well as modern insulation to keep the houses warm in winter and cool in summer.
The Long House, built in stone and comprising a salon with a large, open fireplace, a farmhouse kitchen/dining room, a bathroom with shower, lavabo and wc, and double (or twin) bedroom and a bedroom with two double beds and one single on the first floor. The Yellow Room (accessed via a short flight of 6 steps from outside the kitchen door of the Long House) provides a further double (or twin) bedroom with en suite bathroom containing shower, lavabo and wc.
There is a modern and well-equipped kitchen in the Long House with an oak farmhouse dining table for comfy and elegant indoor dining. There is a comfortable living room. There is ample, shaded outdoor seating on the terrace of the Long House or on the pool terrace. There is also a Weber bbq.
The Petite Maison is also available at a supplement and sits next to the Long House and consists of two rooms. The downstairs room contains twin bunk beds and a sink. The upstairs room on the mezzanine level contains a king size bed which can also be arranged as two singles. Guests of the Petite Maison use the toilet and bathroom facilities of the Long House or laundry room.

Bedroom 1 Yellow Room - 1 extra large double bed - can be arranged as two singles.
Bedroom 2 - 1 extra large double bed - can be arranged as two singles.
Bedroom 3 - 3 Double Beds.
Note: The Yellow Room has an en suite shower room and is accessed via a short flight of external stairs outside the kitchen door of the Long House.

Bathroom 1 - Toilet , shower enclosure on the ground floor.
Bathroom 2 - Toilet , shower enclosure , en suite in the Yellow Room
The gardens of the Mas d'Arjac are extensive and beautifully maintained, and the meadows and woodland of the Arjac estate extend down the valley to the spring and stream.
Guests of the Long House have exclusive use from end of May til end of September of the 16m x 4m swimming pool (constant depth of 1.6m) which is situated adjacent to the owner’s house, as well as the pool deck and furniture between 9h00 and 22h00 each day.
Please see the aerial photo for an idea of the property's layout.
There is parking for two guest cars outside the front entrance to the property and ample parking for extra cars in the meadow just down the lane.
Due to the rocky terrain on which the hamlet has been constructed, Arjac is unfortunately not suitable for guests with limited mobility.
We provide excellent information, both pre-arrival and during the stay, so that our guests can make a quick start on their holiday planning.
We also provide IGN maps of the area so that guests can enjoy the many gentle walks and longer rambles of this most beautiful area.
We also know local restaurants inside out and can help our guests with reservations at the best tables in the region!

Hello, I am Simon Clark, a retired schoolteacher and lover of France and Spain, their languages and cultures. My partner and I bought the Mas d'Arjac 16 years ago with a view to creating an arts and cultural centre with accommodation and a business to keep me out of mischief once retired. As well as our holiday rentals, I also run a cultural association which promotes concerts, mainly of classical music, by some of the brightest musical stars of the future. We fell in love with the peaceful woodland setting of the Mas d'Arjac and the beauty of its stone buildings which we have restored to practical use over the intervening years. We particularly love exploring the many stunning villages within easy reach of the house as well as the vibrant market days in our nearest towns. Our small corner of France, in the Aveyron but very close to the borders with Tarn et Garonne and the Lot, is the perfect springboard to explore this fascinating and extremely picturesque part of SW France.
