WHERE TO GO?
This Villa is situated in Banja bay and is the perfect base from which to explore the Elafiti islands, Ston (15 km distance), the Arboretum Trsteno (20 km distance) and Dubrovnik city (36 km distance).
The Elaphiti Islands or the Elaphites is a small archipelago consisting of several islands stretching northwest of Dubrovnik, in the Adriatic sea. The Elaphites have a total land area of around 30 square kilometres (12 square miles) and a population of 850 inhabitants. The islands are covered with characteristic Mediterranean evergreen vegetation and attract large numbers of tourists during the summer tourist season due to their beaches and pristine scenery.
Ston was a major fort of the Ragusan Republic whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture. The town's inner wall measures 890 metres in length, while the Great Wall outside the town has a circumference of 5 km. The walls extend to Mali Ston ("Little Ston"), a smaller town on the northern side of the Pelješac isthmus and the end of the Bay of Mali Ston, notable for its mariculture.
Ston is also known for its saltworks which were run by the Republic of Ragusa and the Ottoman Empire.Dubrovnik, the 'Pearl of the Adriatic', on the Dalmatian coast, was an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.
Dubrovnik was founded in the first half of the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum, who established their settlement at the island and named it Laus. The Latin name Ragusa (Rausa), in use until the 15th century, originated from the rock (Lat. lausa = rock)
The Arboretum Trsteno was erected by the local noble family Gozze in the late 15th century, who requested ship captains to bring back seeds and plants from their travels. The exact start date for the arboretum is unknown, but it was already in existence by 1492, when a 15 m span aqueduct to irrigate the arboretum was constructed; this aqueduct is still in use. Trsteno is also well known for its two giant sycamores. One is tall 41 and second 33.3 meters. The age of these trees is estimated at about 500 years. At the beginning of the 15th century, Captain James Florio Anthony (Florio Jakoba Antunova), known as Indian, was impressed by the beauty of large and old trees, on the Bosporus and he brought five seedlings in Trsteno, which were planted by the source. Two trees have survived to this day and has developed into a huge sycamores, among the greatest in Europe.

We arrived from Canada August 24/2014 and stayed until Sep 5/2014. Slano is a wonderful small town located close to some great places like Mostar, Dubrovnik and Mali Ston. The House and Property is absolutely spotless and the terrace is 15 feet to the sea. We never encountered any problems with the property. All amenities were in working order. The Owner was more than helpful to answer the most common questions upon arrival and steer us in the right direction. Booking was easy and simple. Milan, the house keeper, is more than willing to help in any form or way. We ended up having him over for supper one night and he returned the favour the next night by cooking some fish for us on the charcoal barbecue. A car rental is not a must but will make visiting the surrounding Area much easier and lets you explore more ground. We had several drives into the mountains of Montenegro and Bosnia which was incredible. This is a wonderful country which has been in the past occupied by many nations and is incredibly rich in diversity in culture and nature. Warm mediterranean climate is exchanged quickly within a half hour drive up the mountains to a more temperate environment. I will most definitely return to this property and thank Darko for a wonderful time in Croatia.
We stayed at this lovely villa last year and had a great time. As soon as we opened the door we were pleasantly surprise at how spacious and modern it was. It had everything we needed including washing machine, dishwasher etc. The upstairs bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and also a lovely balcony where we would love to sit and watch the sunset with a glass of wine. There is also a terrace coming off the lounge with a bbq and a downstairs bathroom. So it easily accommodates a group of people without getting under each others feet. The supermarket, which stocks everything you need is about 15 minutes walk away. As for Slano, I couldn't recommend it more. It has a very stylish resort with a lovely port and the restaurants are of a very high standard. Even though it is very smart, everyone is very relaxed and chilled out. I would thoroughly recommend going, and we look forward to our return holiday. My Response: Thank you very much for your effort and kindness to write this nice review. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay in Villa Leo and look forward to seeing you again on 17th July this year.
We celebrated our mother's 60th birthday in idyllic Slano. We had quite big group of people so we rented three villas, Villa Arann, Villa Leo and Villa Clio. When we arrived to Slano we were really surprised! All the luxury villas were in excellent condition and nicely furnished. Everything was organized perfectly for our stay! During our stay house keeper and cleaner did their best to serve us. We and especially our children enjoyed the beautiful pebble beaches and crystal clear water of Adriatic. During two weeks we did several trips to Dubrovnik by car and by bus and we also visited historical Ston and Mali Ston that is just 20 minutes from Slano. If you are looking for high quality accommodation from Croatia, I think you have now found one of the best! Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday then Slano is the perfect location, and if you are looking for a perfect villa, then I can highly recommend "Villa Leo". The villa is fully equipped with everything you will need and furnished to a very high standard. There is large terrace complete with grill for outside dining, which we made good use of throughout our stay. If you want to dine out Slano village is only 15 minutes stroll away where you will find a selection of bars and restaurants. The village is very traditional, laid back and friendly. Check out "Kolarin", a restaurant frequented by tourists and local people and is situated in the middle of the village. For fish dishes there is a very nice restaurant almost on the beach; check out „Mirakul“ and „Nono“. The sand and pebble beaches are big enough for you to find your own space. There is a regular bus service to Dubrovnik. The villa owner, Darko, made us very welcome and lives nearby if you need anything at all. We had a wonderful holiday and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this villa to anyone and are certainly considering returning at some in the future.
