WHERE TO GO?

As the Villa is situated in Banja bay, Slano, it is the perfect base from which to explore the Elafiti islands, Ston (15 km distance), the Arboretum Trsteno (20 km distance) and Dubrovnik city (36 km distance).

  • The Elaphiti Islands or the Elaphites is a small archipelago consisting of several islands stretching northwest of Dubrovnik, in the Adriatic sea. The Elaphite have a total land area of around 30 square kilometres (12 square miles) and a population of 850 inhabitants. The islands are covered with characteristic Mediterranean evergreen vegetation and attract large numbers of tourists during the summer tourist season due to their beaches and pristine scenery.

  • Ston was a major fort of the Ragusan Republic whose defensive walls were regarded as a notable feat of medieval architecture. The town's inner wall measures 890 metres in length, while the Great Wall outside the town has a circumference of 5 km. The walls extend to Mali Ston ("Little Ston"), a smaller town on the northern side of the Pelješac isthmus and the end of the Bay of Mali Ston, notable for its mariculture.
Ston is also known for its saltworks which were run by the Republic of Ragusa and the Ottoman Empire.

  • Dubrovnik, the 'Pearl of the Adriatic', on the Dalmatian coast, was an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains.

  • Dubrovnik was founded in the first half of the 7th century by a group of refugees from Epidaurum, who established their settlement on the island and named it Laus. The Latin name Ragusa (Rausa), in use until the 15th century, originated from the rock (Lat. lausa = rock)

  • The Arboretum was erected by the local noble family Gozze in the late 15th century, who requested ship captains to bring back seeds and plants from their travels. The exact start date for the arboretum is unknown, but it was already in existence by 1492 when a 15 m span aqueduct to irrigate the arboretum was constructed; this aqueduct is still in use. Trsteno is also well known for its two giant sycamores. One is tall 41 and the second 33.3 meters. The age of these trees is estimated at about 500 years. At the beginning of the 15th century, Captain James Florio Anthony (Florio Jakoba Antunova), known as Indian, was impressed by the beauty of large and old trees, on the Bosporus and he brought five seedlings in Trsteno, which were planted by the source. Two trees have survived to this day and have developed into huge sycamores, among the greatest in Europe.

Slano is just out of this world and Villa Arann is top quality and right beside the sea. It is so peaceful and yet only a short walk to the town. The Villa is in pristine condition, and has everything you could need to have a great holiday. It is ideally situated for day trips to Dubrovic and we also travelled to Bosnia which is approx. an hour and a half away driving. There are lovely restaurants in the town of Slano and the people were so friendly, particularly if you have children, they make you very welcome. I highly recommend villa Arann and Slano and can honestly say it was the best holiday I have had. Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

BEST HOLIDAY EVER! Villa ARANN, My family and I decided to check out Croatia for a holiday this year. We wanted a relaxing break in the sun and found ourselves in a beautiful village called Slano, less than half an hour from the magnificent old city of Dubrovnik. The village nestles under the surrounding mountains and right on a beautiful crystal clear bay which looks more like an inland lake than the Adriatic. There are lots of lovely friendly pubs and restaurants and now the magnificent new five star Admiral hotel and leisure centre where some of us pampered ourselves in the fabulous relaxation, massage and pool complex ! No rush hour in Slano ! ! We stayed in a lovely new and really well appointed villa called "Villa Arann" which is only a few steps from the beach and a short stroll by the waters edge to the village. It has all the mod cons you could need and is clearly really well maintained. It has a great patio area for "Al Fresco" dining and the views across the bay to the islands beyond are simply awesome. To the rear are little terraces of olive groves and fruit trees. It also has dedicated covered parking, though we didnt use the car much we biked and strolled almost everywhere. There are some great local ferry trips to the islands offshore. We went to the islands of Korcula and Mljet and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We also spent a wonderful day in the great old city of Dubrovnik. Before we left for home, we all agreed to come back again to "Villa Arann" in the future and spend more time exploring this gem of a place, Slano. Luxury accommodation! We celebrated our mothers 60th birthday in idyllic Slano. We had quite big group of people so we rented three villas from Darko Villa Arann, Villa Leo and Villa Clio. When we arrived to Slano we were really surprised! All the luxury villas were in excellent condition and nicely furnished. Everything was organized perfectly for our stay! During our stay house keeper and cleaner did their best to serve us. We and especially our children enjoyed the beautiful pebble beaches and crystal clear water of Adriatik. During two weeks we did several trips to Dubrovnik by car and by bus and we also visited historical Ston and Mali Ston that is just 20 minutes from Slano. If you are looking for high quality accommodation from Croatia, I think you have now found one of the best! Recommended for: Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway -
