Truly lovely seafront village house in fantastic location on Bol Harbour. Perfect for a beach vacation as Croatia's most famous beach, and the local diving centre are nearby. Town beach 30 m away.

Overview

Harbour House is 200 years old. With 2 ft thick walls This seafront house has stood the test of time. With its large terrace providing panoramic views over the harbour and surrounding area it is unique in that it is the only house that is actually right on the harbour.

Although not huge, the house feels surprisingly spacious because of the way in which it is laid out. Entry into a wide hallway stretching the depth of the house to the stairs gives you access to a large well equipped kitchen and an equally large ground floor bedroom; Stairs bring you to the bathroom and further on to a wide landing with the second bedroom and the terrace sitting room this leads out to the terrace itself, with its large table, six reclining chairs and awning.

It has a lovely private garden that is hidden from the world behind the house. With a marble patio and dining area it is a lovely place to have breakfast or spend an evening.
Bol is a cosmopolitan resort town with many little bars and restaurants surrounding the harbour but still retains its village atmosphere as the fishermen still go out to fish. Guests can browse in the many little shops nearby. The new marina is just behind the house.

We have our own dedicated parking place on the harbour which, in Bol, is very difficult to obtain.

Bol is a famous water sports centre and the Golden Horn Beach, a fine white marble shale beach that reaches into the sea, changing shape with the prevailing sea currents, is a short walk away. A water sports centre is nearby.

Bol has a great night life. All of the open air restaurants and bars come to life at dusk, and villagers and visitors mingle around the harbour and quayside: If you really want to party you can aim for the Golden Horn Beach and its night club set back from the sea, or if you prefer you can enjoy a delicious cocktail at the cocktail bar on the harbour. Regular summer festivals with dancing and fun mean that the village always has something happening. The house is right at the heart of everything but guests at Harbour House can sleep soundly in their beds as double glazing and secondary double glazing, combined with air conditioning keeps the house cool and quiet.

For guests with boats, a berth in Bol Harbour can be arranged.

Living waterside is a delight. In the late afternoon the sunlight reflected off of the sea, playing on the ceiling in the ground floor rooms through the louvres of the shutters, brings the ocean very close.

Croatia Airlines, Easyjet, British Airways, Norwegian Air and Whizzair have regular flights to Split although you can often get significant discounts on these flights if you book through Travel Republic. Guests flying from Austria and Switzerland can fly direct to Brac Airport 9 km away from the house.

Local amenities.
The Golden Horn Beach is only a short stroll away along the marble walk. Here you can swim and sunbathe to your hearts content. If the sun gets to hot at midday you can retreat into the pine trees and enjoy a meal or a cocktail at one of the bars set amongst the trees,

In the other direction, en route toward the Dominican Monastery with its lovely beach, the coastal path passes numerous small restaurants and eateries, including Mlin The Mill. the lovely seafront restaurant in a traditional fisherman's house, is at the end of the coastal path. Here the food is flavoursome and inexpensive and the location is hard to beat. The beach is absolutely perfect for children.

We had an amazing stay at Harbour House. Literally a heavenly location with views to die for. House really rustic and quirky but had all you need for the perfect stay.

Bol is delightful and the position and outlook from Harbour House - especially the balcony is outstanding. The house itself is nicely decorated although the layout of kitchen on the ground floor and alot of stairs to the balcony means that to take full advantage required much carrying - and the stairs are fairly steep.

One major improvement would be a book of the house with tips such as: do not try to have windows open at night - there is a huge amount of noise with one bar in particular going on till 2.30 am. We learnt by day 3/4 that the solution was to leave doors open and air conditioning on at night with each of the three layers of shutter/window/double glazing shut - which worked like a charm and totally explained why they are there...

Unfortunately the parasol was broken - and the table on the balcony is obviously not long for this life. With the result that most of the day the balcony was too hot to use.

Also, we found that Zlatni Rat as a beach was unusably crowded from circa 11am and it also took us a while to find the beaches in the direction of the monastery which are much nicer and more used by locals. The beach just in front of the pier is surprisingly good for a swim/sunbathe...

One further tip - if climbing up to Vidora Gora (the mountain) the guides are ridiculously optimistic with one quoting a one hour walk and another 2 hours. Allow three. But the views are really worth it and there is a restaurant at the top to refresh you even if the car park up there does initially seem to make a mockery of the exertions of the climb!

The beaches are very stony and sea shoes arent really optional if you want to play in the water, so buy them as soon as you arrive or bring them with you. Also beach rolls - we found some in Konsum for 5 Kuna which we left for the next occupants - which we hope they will benefit from as the house seemed to have been somewhat cleaned out between lets when we arrived - always a little annoying when you think what Harbour House in particular costs...

The house is beautifully situated and its views are simply breathtaking. It is hard to imagine a more picturesque setting, add the fact that a range of bars and restaurants are virtually on its doorstep and the location is even more impressive. Hours can be spent chilling out on its balcony.

The only down sides were calling an old transistor radio a 'music player', no kettle and bizarre arrangements for collecting and depositing the keys.

Apart from those points Harbour House is perfect - Bol and the island of Brac equally so.

Thank you for a most enjoyable week in the lovely Harbour House in Bol. We all completely loved the place! Hope we will have the opportunity to be back again. Ann and Gunner, June 2013.

Bol was lovely. Our hire car didnt move from the deep blue car park for two weeks as we could walk everywhere. There is never a dull moment when on the balcony! We loved the Monastery Beach and only went to the Golden Horn Beach twice. We hired a RIB speedboat and went over to Jelsa, Verboska and Styari Grad on Hvar ... all beautiful towns too, and found a lovely little bay to anchor in for lunch. Restaurants were simple but very good, and cheap. Pizzas in Croatia are awesome. Weather was non-stop sunshine. I hope we will return to Bol before too long and can stay in Harbour House again. Jonathan Wade, July 2013.

I just wanted you to know that we had a fantastic time in Bol. Vesna was excellent, offering to help with any enquiry. The water sports were great fun. I tried kite surfing (after a couple of lessons in the UK). We went kayaking, windsurfing, rafting on the Cetina River (organized it ourselves via a firm in Omis that picked us up from Split: Stella Lucis) and took a speedboat to a few other islands and the Blue Cave. We walked everywhere and didnt feel the need to hire bikes, use the boat taxi or road train. The restaurants were all very good, including the one at the end of the pedestrian walkway that you recommended. Anyway, all my family say it was the best holiday hyet. It rated higher than our recenty trips to Corfu, Sardinia, Crete and Corsica. Thanks for a great holiday. Nick Helps, August 2013.

"We loved staying in your house in Postira. The town was absolutely charming. It was marvellous to be right on the water front and so close to the shops for our supplies. The vcovbe around the corner ... proved to be a wonderful place for swimming and picnics (and walks along the coast)." Tom Butler

Sadly back in the UK after a great holiday. Bol was lovely. Our hire car didnt move from the deep blue car park for 2 weeks as we could walk everywhere. We loved the Monastery Beach. The restaurants were simple but very good (and cheap). Pizzas in Croatia are awsome. We enjoyed our stay in Harbour House. The bbq was very good and there was never a dull moment on the balcony terrace! Air conditioning was a good-send at night. Weather was non-stop sunshiner but included 2 days of wind which was quite nice. I hope we will return to Bol before too long and can stay in Harbour House again. Jonathan Wade, Leeds. July 2012

"I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful introduction to Croatia. We loved the place, the people and are most envious of your little piece of it all. You really have got the most idyllic spot. We would be very tempted to buy a property in Croatia, but fear we would never find anything so perfect! ... Many thanks for a perfect week." [visited May 2005] "I just wanted to say thankyou for the use of your wonderful house. Our week in Bol was so comfortable and relaxed, and we all came away feeling like new people...The house was kitted out perfectly, complete with all mod-cons and very comfy beds. All in all a great stay on a lovely island and we'd love to come back some time." [this family extended their stay by 3 nights]

"I just wanted to say thank you for the use of your wonderful house. Our week in Bol was so comfortable and relaxed, and we all came away feeling like new people.I particularly loved the view of the harbour from the terrace. I hadn't expected it to be so close and we got quite used to starting our mornings with coffee and croissants overlooking the bobbing boats. The town itself was very friendly and our two-year old made good pals with the local fruit-sellers. The house was kitted out perfectly, complete with all mod-cons and very comfy beds. All in all a great stay on a lovely island and we'd love to come back some time." [This family stayed an extre 3 days]

We have been visiting Croatia since 1968 and when, In 2003, we had the opportunity to purchase Harbour House, Bol and Orange Grove House, Postira, both on the Island of Brac on the Dalmatian coast, we jumped at it. We have never regretted this and hope that our guests feel as happy in Croatia as we do. Croatia is a wonderful country. It is clean and pristine. The sea is completely crystalline and clear and a joy for swimming and the watersports that Croatia offers are absolutely fantastic.
