Overview
I have written my official description underneath however I thought it best to give you my ‘informal introduction.
This is a small house in a small, lovely village on the top of a hill overlooking Provadia. Dobrina gets 4 full seasons - in the summer, it can get very hot, and in the winter you will get lots of snow (and probably snowed in). Staying in this house is basically a commitment for you to do very little, walk a long way and meet some of the locals who you may walk down to see who is staying there at the moment. The plot of land is large and there is a disused barn which is planned for future development. There is also a 'well' on the property which can be used if required but it is not advised to let any children nearby. However the garden is not a lawn, it is just a garden with lots of weird and wonderful little animals in there.
Our neighbour Yanka has a very small shop that will give you the basics and there is a small bar/restaurant where you will be served whatever is on the menu for that night. You will also see a few horse and carts as you approach the village. So although there are a handful of overseas owners in the village, you are essentially going to stay in a place where village life rules and you can watch it go by, or be far enough to not see anyone for your entire stay. Maybe bring a Bulgarian phrasebook though and be prepared to drink the local moonshine (Rakia) if you get invited around by the neighbors. Don't finish it too quickly as it gets immediately topped up.
You will be met at the airport and helped to your house. Car Hire is advisable if want to go to Varna/anywhere or if you are just going to stay in the house and relax then taxi's/local support maybe relevant but please check with us before booking and I will have to reconfirm.
Now my official blurb..........
This property is a beautiful fully renovated traditional Bulgarian house situated in the rural idyll of Dobrina; just 4 kilometers from the town of Provadia, and c.40 kilometers from the bright lights of Varna city.
The house is ideal for four to six people, thanks to two double bedrooms and a large sofa bed in the refreshingly spacious open-plan lounge, making it perfect for family getaways.
This self-catering property has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay, including a fully fitted kitchen, oven with extractor, fridge-freezer, microwave and washing machine, not to mention a spacious dining area, which can comfortably seat six around a large and homely wooden table dining table.
There are two bedrooms on the second floor, both with two single beds that can be transformed into double beds. One bedroom is en-suite with shower, washbasin and toilet, whilst bedroom two enjoys the use of the property’s second bathroom down the hall. Large wardrobes ensure that you won’t be short of storage space either.
Outside the house you can relax under the shade of a covered veranda and enjoy the table and chairs there to enjoy a delicious morning breakfast, or even a candlelit supper.
The property is situated in the peaceful village of Dobrina, famous as the chestnut village, which is set among some of Bulgaria’s most beautiful countryside – atop a plateau overlooking Provadia canyon. This ideal location ensures that you can take advantage of breathtaking views, extensive walks and memorable bike rides. Enjoy picnics with great panoramic views, and let everyday life float away.
Not only is Dobrina village ecologically clean, but it also has a culturally rich and diverse history that awaits your discovery. Here, there are many Thracian burial mounds and the ruins of Thracian and Roman settlements. During the 16th century, the village of Dobrina was the centre of a big Dubrovnik colony with St. Theodore - a unique stone church from the XVI-XVII centuries - located in the village. Many bones – evidence of a massacre of the population during the invasion of the Turks - were found in the church. Another site of interest is the still-active “Holy Birth of the Holy Mother”, with its hiding place in the church crypt.
The village of Dobrina is also connected to the history of the British military units that took part in the Crimean War. Among the many tombs of British soldiers is the tomb of a General.
If you want to take advantage of a picturesque vacation in Bulgaria’s beautiful countryside that’s also in close proximity to Varna and the Black Sea, this is the perfect property for you.
